Hail coated areas of Jabal al-Lawz, near the Jordanian border in Tabuk province of Saudi Arabia, on Sunday.

The storm arrived on Sunday evening and continued into the night, packing hailstones and flash floods in several areas.

"Thunderstorms rolled through central Saudi Arabia over the weekend causing downpours and hail," AccuWeather Meteorologist Eric Leister said.

"Temperatures were near 70 degrees at the time of the storm; however, the hailstones left a scene looking like snow on top of the desert sand," Leister said.

A Saudi photographer named Mohammed al-Tawel used his drone to capture aerial footage of the whitened desert near the town of Al-Ghat, located northwest of the capital of Riyadh.

The scene was reminiscent from one three years ago in the Sahara Desert in Algeria. A rare snowfall coated the landscape for only the second time in recorded history in the area.

Many other residents and visitors shared videos and photos of the unusually white desert landscape.
