At least six people were injured after getting struck by lightning while working on a rooftop in Florida on Tuesday, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reported.

Two were taken to a trauma center, two were taken to a non-trauma center, and two were treated and released at the scene, according to Fox 4.

AccuWeather Meteorologist David Samuhel said It was a typical Florida afternoon. In fact, thunderstorms were rather isolated across Palm Beach County

"In Wellington, where the accident occurred, thunderstorms are common during the summer as it is about 10 miles inland from the coast," Samuhel said.

WPEC reports the incident happened around 2 p.m. CDT when lightning hit a roof where several people were working at a development in Wellington, Florida.

"Thunderstorms are most likely across interior portions of Florida than they are on the immediate coast," Samuhel said.

"Sea breezes develop every day in the summer, the sea breeze cools the coast, but clashes with very hot and humid air inland, resulting in the thunderstorms," Samuhel said.
