Vieques aerial damage photos show immense destruction from Hurricane Maria
NOAA released Hurricane Maria aerial damage photos from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands yesterday, and they aren't pretty. Although none of them have been getting the media airtime they need as they recover, I want to start with the tiny island of Vieques, which belongs to Puerto Rico. First, the airport, which is on the
side of the island, which wouldn't have taken the brunt of the storm:

The image above shows planes scattered on the runway and in the woods at the Antonio Rivera Rodríguez Airport. Note the one that is nose-down in the ditch! The buildings at the airport appeared to have survived mostly intact.

This neighborhood near Mosquito on Vieques was demolished by the storm -- another example from the northern part of the island.

The Vieques, Puerto Rico, Telephone RSU Pilon (tower) appears to have been torn down by the hurricane, cutting phone service with the outside world.
