The early-season tornado outbreak is over, after causing 31 tornado reports across 5 states. CNN says that at least 20 people have lost their lives in this tragic storm. Later today I'll do a video examining photos and radar images from the outbreak.

STORM STATS:

NWS WARNINGS ISSUED:

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Issued: 200*
Tornado Warnings Issued: 100*

SPOTTER REPORTS:

Tornado Reports: 31
Hail Reports: 51 (To 2.5")
Wind Reports: 88

*I don't have accurate counts for these yet. Stay tuned.

Below are a couple of heartbreaking Associated Press photos from the tornado that hit the school in Enterprise, Alabama yesterday.

Rescue workers and volunteers look at the damage to Enterprise High School after a tornado hit the school and the area, Thursday March 1, 2007 in Enterprise, Ala. At least 18 people Thursday, including 15 at a high school where students became pinned under debris when a roof collapsed, state officials said. "The number could very well increase as the search effort continues through the night," state emergency management spokeswoman Yasamie Richardson said. (AP Photo/Rob Carr)

Meteorologists are unsure what exactly causes tornadoes but a low-level jet stream moving in a different direction than surface winds creates shear, or twisting of the winds, which eventually becomes vertical, producing a tornado.
