Possible Tornado in Miami, But No Radar
At 2:40 PM a storm spotter filed a tornado report with the National Weather Service: "HIALEAH PD REPORTED TWO VEHICLES FLIPPED AT PALM AVENUE AND 17TH STREET." Unfortunately the Miami radar was down at the time, with the NWS saying"KAMX RADAR DOWN FOR NEEDED PART REPLACEMENT." (It's back up now). Below is a shot from the Key West radar, which didn't show any rotation (but is looking quite high above the city of Miami).
MIAMI RADAR & LIGHTNING STRIKES @ 2:30 PM (DOWNLOAD* MOVIE )
Local 10 says"A tornado warning had been issued for northeastern Miami-Dade County after reports of a funnel cloud near Hialeah." The Miami Herald added"Residents said the funnel cloud damaged several parked cars and at least one house." WSVN is en route and may have a report soon. There were probably 1,000 lightning strikes in the Miami area in the last 2 hours (see plot map), and storms are still ongoing as I write this at 4 PM.
