The last in the 6-part Discovery Channel series on weather disasters deals with something dear to my heart as a Southerner -- ice storms. We used to get some doozies down in North Carolina. I remember once in winter (1984?) waking up to what I thought were gunshots, but were actually trees falling outside my window. Of course, the one that they quote above in 1986 (CBC Video, Photos) happened much futher north in Canada. Let's not forget the severe ice storm in New England and Canada that happened in 1998 (CNN Photos | WIKIPEDIA | CBC Photos).
