Heat Wave: 500 Record Highs, 90s, 40+ Above Norm.

I blogged about the Thursday heat wave extending from the Midwest through Pennsylvania, but even more impressive statistics came out of New England Friday and Saturday. All told, nearly 500 record high temperatures (and another 172 record high minimum temperatures) have been broken in the Midwest & Northeast this month. Here's a look at official high temperatures Thursday (note the 91 F in West Virginia and 90 in New York):

Here are some of the most interesting stats that I could find. These are pulled from AccuWeather.com's monthly weather database and the NCDC records site:

- 30 record highs were broken by 7 degrees from the Midwest to the Northeast. - 13 high temperatures in the 90s were reported in West Virginia and Kentucky Thursday. - Hamlin, WV set an all-time April high temperature Thursday with 94 degrees! - Onaway, Michigan broke their record high minimum (40) by 17 degrees with 57 degrees. - Dansville, New York normally has a high temperature of 51 but hit 90 degrees on Friday. - Berlin, New Hampshire should have been 46 Saturday afternoon but reached 84. - Mount Mansfield, Vermont was 52 degrees Friday morning when they should have been 19; they were +35 for the day. - Caribou, Maine had a high Saturday that was +41 degrees compared to normal (82 vs. 41)!
