Frozen Susquehanna River Turns to Ice Jams
On March 8, I took a trip down to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to see something I've never witnessed: The Susquehanna River frozen over. (You may recall I was also there for the 2011 flooding). The river froze over (or very close to it) last winter, but I wasn't able to get down there. It was quite a sight to see. (More pictures coming tonight).
The warm spell that weekend started breaking up the ice on frozen rivers, lakes and creeks statewide. These photos of the Alleghany River were taken on the same day by the National Weather Service:
