Blockbuster nor'easter to drop 2 feet of snow
Updated Dec 15, 2020 9:54 PM EDT
Unless you've been under a rock, you know there's a big winter storm coming. For many locations it will be the biggest in years, with snowfall adding up to 30 inches. We have a detailed story on the storm, but heavy snow is likely from the mountains of West Virginia through New England.

The storm will bring widespread power outages to many areas, especially in southern New England where the snow will be wetter (heavier) and winds will be stronger.

For us here in the center of the state in State College, Pennsylvania, it could be historic. Historically, it's almost impossible to get more than a foot of snow here.
The European model is predicting 38 inches of snow in 24 hours here, but we've only seen more than 18 inches of snow in a day twice in the last 130 years.
While those accumulations are unlikely, because they would be far above anything we've seen before, just over 15 inches would land us in the Top 10 one-day snowfall events here... none of which have occurred since 1996.

AccuWeather's official projection is 10.9 inches as of 3 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2020, though Wintercast says it is slightly more likely it would be more than 15 inches than it would be less that 10. The NWS is forecasting 11-17 inches.

Whatever the case, it's going to be an interesting storm. Tomorrow's my first day of Christmas vacation, so I'll be making Christmas cookies and enjoying the view. You can view all of my webcams at my house on my website.
