A Freezing Flood on the Mississippi
Blog reader Julie wrote in today to say:
Julie, you're correct, and the situation is widespread. Moderate river flooding continues Friday up and down the Mississippi Valley, with the worst conditions in southern Indiana. Over 70 river gauges reported at least minor flooding Friday afternoon, according to the NWS [JessePedia].

The NWS had issued dozens of flood advisories up and down the MIssissippi River.

For example, the White River at Edwardsport was cresting near 24 feet (which would put it in the top 8 crests of all time); flood stage is 15 feet with major stage at 25. At 24 feet the NWS says: "Water is at critical stage for major agricultural levees. All roads are underwater in flood plain except U.S. Highway 50 flood. Evacuations are necessary from river cabins. All farmland on the unprotected sides of levees floods."
