2017 Inaugural Tornado Outbreak Statistics
The "Inaugural Tornado Outbreak" of 2017 has concluded. Over a four-day period surrounding President Trump's Inauguration Day nearly 20 people were killed (he offered condolences), 605 severe warnings were issued by the NWS and 447 storm reports (unfiltered) were filed in the southeastern U.S.

It was one of the deadliest January tornado outbreaks ever; Mississippi and Georgia were hardest hit. Northern Florida and coastal Georgia had their first "High Risk" ever, and it was the second such risk issued in the month of January (see my blog from yesterday).

Saturday was the day with the highest number of severe weather reports, including tornadoes.

The hardest-hit cities were Hattiesburg, Mississippi (Saturday, preliminary EF-3 rating), and Albany and Adel, Georgia (Sunday). Video and photos of the destruction were incredible (the first video below is from Adel).
The storm system was intense; I feared it might break all-time low pressure records in inland cities. Atlanta came the closest, measuring 29.15" sea-level pressure, just 0.07" above their record of 29.08" set in 1918! (Pressure records were only available for the asterisked cities).
