Warm Week across central Chile
By Jason Nicholls, AccuWeather senior meteorologist
Updated Aug 1, 2021 9:23 AM EST
A shot of cool air pushed into central Chile early last week, but maximum temperatures around Santiago rebounded to 22 degrees Celsius at midweek. High temperatures have consistently been around 22-23 degrees C from Wednesday into the weekend.
A persistent ridge of high pressure aloft will result in even warmer weather across central Chile, including the capital of Santiago, much of this week. Daytime high temperatures from Monday through Friday of this week will average 8 to 13 degrees C above normal. Clear skies at night will allow good radiational cooling resulting in nighttime lows likely close to normal, which is in the lower single digits C above zero.
The ridge of high pressure aloft is expected to peak in strength early in the week, which should result in the warmest weather occurring in the Monday through Wednesday time period. Daytime high temperatures around Santiago in this period are expected to be 25-28 degrees C.
As the ridge weakens, daytime high temperatures will ease to around 23 or 24 degrees C on Thursday and Friday. A weak and moisture-starved front should cause maximum temperatures to fall to more seasonable levels over the weekend.
As far as much-needed precipitation, there is a small chance for some rain and mountain snow in central Chile around mid-August. However, precipitation for the month of August is expected to average below normal across much of Chile. The exception looks to be in far southern Chile where precipitation can average near to perhaps above normal.
