Young moon pairs with Venus tonight

By Dave Samuhel, AccuWeather senior meteorologist

Published Apr 26, 2020 4:05 PM EDT

The thin crescent moon will pair will Venus tonight! Make sure to see it tonight, because it will be the last time this pair is easily visible together in the evening sky for the rest of the year!

Venus is quickly dropping in the evening sky, and it will become a morning planet in June.

Venus is the brightest object in the night sky other than the moon. So, you really can’t miss this pair. Just look west shortly after sunset.

This photo of the moon and Venus was taken in February by myself. The moon and Venus will be in similar positions tonight.

Expected cloud cover this evening. A storm will bring widespread clouds to the East Coast tonight.

The Lyrid meteor shower has passed. Did you get to see any meteors? I set up my camera during the early morning hours of April 22 and was able to get this shot!

Far better than my meteor, was this video of a meteor over Slovakia by Robert Barsa

The best meteor during this month's Lyrid meteor shower might not have been a Lyrid at all. On April 21st, Robert Barsa was outside the city of Košice, Slovakia, watching meteors fly out of the constellation Lyra when a flash lit up the sky from a completely different direction pic.twitter.com/AvLMYV97aF

We won't have to wait long for the next meteor shower. The eta Aquarids peak May 4 into 5!

Thanks for reading. Just look up; you never know what you will see!
