Weekly pattern update into february
The storm train that has inundated California over the past few weeks is finally set to come to an end later this week as the overall jet stream pattern across North America shifts.
Instead of a strong, westerly jet cutting right through the West Coast of the United States and bringing storm after storm, we will transfer to a building ridge off the West coast, which will send most of the milder air and storms up toward Alaska late this month into early February.
This will also result in a more northwesterly flow of colder and drier air into the western half of the U.S. and parts of southwestern Canada over the next couple of weeks with some of that colder air eventually bleeding into the East but nothing compared to what we saw around the Christmas holiday.
This type of pattern may finally bring increased opportunities for snow to southeastern Canada and the Northeast U.S., especially by the second week of February.
