Upcoming Weather Pattern for Canada
A more typical August weather pattern will shape up by next week as the jet stream retreats farther north and weakens a bit.
Highlights.....
1. Bertha is now an extra-tropical storm (lost tropical characteristics) and will race northeastward tonight, passing far enough south of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland Thursday morning with just a brief period of steady rain and some wind. Most of the wind with the system will be south and east of the center of circulation and that means the stronger winds stay well offshore.
2. A large-upper low will spin around Atlantic Canada from Thursday through Saturday keeping the region cooler and more unsettled with showers through the period.
3. BC and the Prairies will heat up again from Thursday into Saturday. However, this could set the stage for strong thunderstorms from south-central Alberta to south-central Saskatchewan late in the day Friday. The main threat for strong thunderstorms will shift into southern and central Manitoba Saturday afternoon.
4. Temperatures will remain below average across much of eastern Canada into Friday before it starts to warm back up a bit during the weekend.
5. An area of hot air will likely spread up into northern Quebec from Sunday into Monday before cooler air and thunderstorms return Monday night.
6. More hot weather could be in the offering early next week in BC followed by a brief cooldown then another surge of heat for the end of next week.
7. There is the potential for severe thunderstorms over southern Ontario on Tuesday. Still early though, so things can certainly change between now and then.
