My latest thoughts on the weather pattern into next week
The jet stream will once again become highly amplified across the northern U.S. and Canada through next week, which may lead to some extremes in temperatures and precipitation in parts of the country.
--After a short period of summerlike weather, much cooler air will spread through eastern Canada Friday into Saturday.
--There is the potential for a frost/freeze early Friday morning over portions of southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario as a strong high from northern Canada builds overhead.
--A moderate-sized storm system will bring a period of rain to Ontario on Sunday, then into Quebec Sunday night into Monday morning, but it should not be enough rain to cause additional flooding.
--A ridge of high pressure aloft will strengthen along the west coast next week, while at the same time a large trough will set up shop near the Great Lakes. The result of this will be the following...
1. An extended stretch of mostly dry weather for southern British Columbia (well below-normal rainfall for the next 7-10 days).
Forecast model predicted total rainfall (inches) between now and Friday next week. Note: very little rainfall for southwestern B.C., while significant amounts for parts of Ontario and Quebec.

2. Above-normal rainfall for southern/eastern Ontario and Quebec for the five-day period next week.
3. Unseasonably cool stretch of weather next week for Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. This cooler air will eventually shift east into the remainder of Ontario and Quebec late next week.
4. Temperatures will average well-above normal (4 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal) for southern British Columbia, with the potential for record highs early next week over the Lower Mainland.
Projected average temperature departures (degrees Celsius) for the 7-day period ending late next week.

5. There are indications that a strong front could bring significant cooling to the western Prairies around Thursday next week.
