Long Range Forecast Still Looking Hot in the East

By Staff

Before I get to the long range, I took a look at some of the rainfall totals out of southern Alberta since Wednesday. Some locations received over 125 mm of rain and flooding continues to be a problem.

I have not received the rainfall amounts out of Saskatchewan as of yet, but the situation in southern parts of that province looks pretty bad with the already saturated ground and this most recent rain storm.

I just read that 73% of the crops in Saskatchewan are now planted as the region continues to deal with the slow start to planting due to all the rainfall.

--------------

This is my latest interpretation of the ECMWF long range weekly forecast output for North America. The model continues to show very warm to hot conditions through mid-July over the eastern United States and eastern Canada.

The week of June 28 to July 4--Blistering heat of the Tennessee and Ohio valleys. --Very warm and humid from the central Plains through most of Ontario. --Watch for big storms from southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba through northern and central Ontario. --Warm and generally dry from Quebec through New England and into the Maritimes. --Cooler and wetter over Newfoundland. --Near normal temperatures, but above-normal rainfall for the Pacific Northwest and southern BC. --Above-normal rainfall for southern Alberta.

The week of July 5-11--Hot/humid pattern over the central and eastern United States and up into Ontario and southern Quebec. --Not as wet over BC. --Plenty of thunderstorms from the southern half of Saskatchewan through Manitoba and into central Ontario and around the Great Lakes. --Cool over Alaska. --Cooler over eastern Quebec and the Maritimes. --Showery pattern over Newfoundland.

The week of July 12-18--Nasty heat from Texas through the Ohio Valley and Middle Atlantic regions. --Much of northern and eastern Canada still very warm compared to normal. --Thunderstorm zone from the northern Plains through the southeastern Prairies and into central Ontario and the Great Lakes. --Drier than normal along the East Coast and up into the Maritimes and eastern Quebec. --Slightly cooler than normal along the West Coast. --Rainfall close to normal for BC and Alberta. --Cool and wet over Alaska. --Temperatures close to normal for the Prairies.
