Heat to shift back and forth through August
The intense heat that has covered much of the interior western United States and the Plains will expand eastward into Ontario and the Northeast U.S. next week before shifting back to the west again during the second and third weeks of the month.
The annual summer monsoon in the Southwest U.S. has been quite active recently, and it looks to remain that way well into August with above-normal rainfall, especially in Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Colorado.
