Cold expands eastward through the first week of March

A cold weather pattern is expected to dominate across a large portion of southern Canada for the rest of this month and through the first week of February due in part to the persistent high pressure ridge over Alaska, which is initially dumping very cold air southward into western Canada.

There are signs that this pattern may begin to finally break starting around March 10 as the core of the cold air begins to retreat north while milder, Pacific air spreads eastward. Of course, we also have the normal change of season as the direct rays of the sun approach the equator.

One thing that could delay any warmup is the extensive snow pack.
