A major winter storm later this weekend will cause significant travel disruptions. Snow will overspread the Boston area on Sunday afternoon and continue, heavy at times into Monday afternoon. A general 6-12 inches of snow is forecast depending on the track and strength of the storm as it reforms along the coast. Unplowed streets and highways will become packed with snow due to frigid conditions. Gusty winds will cause some blowing and drifting of the snow. Frigid air following the storm will result in little or no natural melting for a few days.
