By Staff, AccuWeather

Copied

Some people love a beach vacation, but if you’re more of a winter person, there are certain towns that come alive during the cold season you must visit.

Are you looking for an exciting new winter vacation spot? We've got you covered. Whether you are trying to escape the summer heat by flying to the southern hemisphere or just trying to take advantage of the winter weather, here are some of our favorite spots for winter vacation.

Pucon, Chile

If you are looking for some southern hemisphere beauty, then you will surely want to visit Pucon. A beautiful small town located on the beach of Lake Villarrica, everything about Pucon in the winter is magical. The highlight would be skiing off of one of the most active volcanoes in South America, Volcan Villarica.

Located in the northern part of the state of Utah and just a 30-minute drive from two of the best ski resorts for miles, you can ski your heart out at Powder Mountain or Snowbasin Resort and never be bored. Utah is famous for having the best snow on earth.

Bariloche is a Patagonian classic. With the Cerro Catedral ski center just a few minutes up the road, you are sure to have a blast in the south of Argentina. Warm gondola rides and steep powder skiing is just a plane ride away.

Chamonix, France

You have not experienced winter until you have visited Chamonix. It is home to some of the steepest terrain in the world. Chamonix is a mecca for ice climbing. You can also take your family on some of the most epic winter tours in Chamonix.

Andorra, Spain

If you are looking to go to Europe and stay further in the south, then Andorra is a great option. With tons of different ski lifts and terrain to choose from and quick access to the Mediterranean, Andorra is ideal for winter vacations.

Alta, Wyoming

Skiing at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming is the epitome of winter fun. Alta is a place that is fun for the whole family, with a large part of Grand Targhee devoted to teaching the little ones how to ski. Traveling to Alta is an affordable destination if you are living in the United States, as lift tickets are relatively inexpensive, and the experience is world-class.

Enjoy Your Winter Vacation

So there is a good starter for ideas on towns that glisten in the winter months. And don't forget to be prepared for winter with all of the necessary clothing and equipment. It doesn't matter if you are looking to do some extreme skiing or just simply trying to soak in some stunning views; the most important part is to enjoy.
