AccuWeather to Provide Weather Forecasting Services for Special Olympics Airlift
Trusted weather source will provide coverage of the airlift and updates of the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games on AccuWeather Network, AccuWeather NOW streaming and AccuWeather.com
AccuWeather Global Weather Center, June 2, 2022 — AccuWeather, the most used and most accurate source of weather forecasts, warnings and insights, today announced it is supporting the incredible Special Olympics Airlift event that will transport Special Olympics athletes to Orlando Florida for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, taking place June 5 -12.
On Saturday, June 4, hundreds of athletes and coaches will move through the Orlando Executive Airport as AccuWeather works alongside Textron Aviation, providing ground-based, up-to-the-minute weather forecasts, warnings and insights to ensure smooth, safe arrivals for all.
AccuWeather will provide enhanced real-time weather updates and forecasting services to facilitate the safe and efficient air traffic coordination of private jets landing at the airport, one at a time, every three minutes.
Textron Aviation, a proud supporter of the USA Games, has teamed with its customers, industry champions and volunteers, ensuring more than 120 aircraft arrive to, and depart from the Orlando Executive Airport. The Special Olympics Airlift will include Cessna Citation, Beechcraft King Air, Beechcraft Premier, Beechcraft Beechjet and Hawker aircraft owners and operators who have donated the use of their aircraft, fuel and pilots to transport Special Olympics athletes and coaches from across the United States to the USA Games.
“AccuWeather is incredibly proud to support the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games and helping make the athletes’ travel experience unique and memorable,” said Tim Bridges, AccuWeather Senior Vice President, Business Enterprises. “Coordinating forecasts with air traffic control is a tried-and-true use of AccuWeather’s forecasting tools, and we jumped at the opportunity to share our expertise and decades of experience to help this event go as smoothly and as safely as possible.”
“Travel is the largest expense for Special Olympics programs, and we are able to help these deserving athletes compete at the highest level thanks to our generous customers who donate the use of their aircraft, pilots and fuel,” said Ron Draper, president and CEO, Textron Aviation. “Not only does the Airlift help offset costs, flying on a business aircraft allows the athletes—many of whom have never flown—to travel to the games hassle-free with their gear and teammates. It’s a memorable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.”
In addition to assisting with ground weather support, the AccuWeather team looks forward to attending the USA Games, and will share updates through the AccuWeather Network, AccuWeather NOW streaming and AccuWeather.com.
