"AccuWeather's exclusive 45-Day Forecast allows people to effectively plan for the holidays, forecasting what the weather has in store for their area further out than they would otherwise have," said Dr. Joel N. Myers, Founder, President and Chairman of AccuWeather. "People can make decisions during one of the most significant travel times of the year through AccuWeather’s detailed, localized information, checking back throughout the season as they count down to the holidays."
Trends in the U.S. leading up to December 25th show: • Mild weather across the Northeast, including the major cities along the I-95 corridor from Boston to NYC and Washington D.C. • Mild air will also stretch westward across the northern part of the country to include cities such as Chicago, Minneapolis and Seattle. • With mild air expected across the northern part of the country and near-to-below-normal precipitation for the month of December, many will miss out on a White Christmas. • Stormy weather will threaten the southern and central Plains including Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. A rain or snow event across the region may threaten travel plans both via flights and driving. This could disrupt the holiday for Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Wichita. • The threat for stormy weather will also extend from southern Texas into the Southeast where heavy rain and potentially severe thunderstorms are possible. Flight delays are possible, but driving may be impacted more due to the threat for heavy rain and flooding in the Southeast. Cities that could be impacted include New Orleans, Atlanta and Houston. • Cool weather will be across the Southwest, but mainly dry weather is forecast. Rainy weather can dampen areas from northern California into the Pacific Northwest.
