AccuWeather and Weather Forecast, LLC To Provide Live Weather Content Like You've Never Seen Before
(Chicago, IL, July 11, 2001) - Live images of current weather conditions, controllable by Web site visitors, will soon be featured on AccuWeather.com, and will be available to Web sites using AccuWeather content. Additionally, each site will be equipped with state of the art weather sensing equipment.
AccuWeather.com has entered a content agreement with Weather Forecast, LLC to provide a national network of robotically controlled Web cameras to show weather live as it happens. As part of the terms of the agreement, AccuWeather.com will feature the service and will market the service to other sites and for use on television through local and national network and cable media partners.
Users of AccuWeather.com and affiliated sites will be able to access the weather cams via a user controlled robotic camera equipped with state of the art weather sensing equipment. Visitors will have the ability to pan, tilt and zoom weather cameras from the location of their choice, e-mail images to others, contribute to photo albums and view time-lapse weather at the sites from the past 24 hours. Links to AccuWeather.com forecasting tools, including 15-day forecasts, will also be accessible via the weather cam pages.
"People want to see the weather as it is happening," says Dr. Joel N. Myers, AccuWeather founder and president. "This new live service will allow viewers to pick locations across the country, see weather conditions as they are happening and control the view of what they are seeing."
AccuWeather is currently testing the program with 6 cameras in Buffalo and expects to go online with multiple cameras in 10 cities by October 1st. Cameras in 150 additional cities will also be added.
"Our program with AccuWeather represents a quantum leap over the competition in the LIVE, local weather arena", said Weather Forecast co-founder, Meteorologist Andy Parker. "Even for the most enthusiastic weather watcher, numbers only tell part of the story. Visual confirmation is the true key to remote weather sensing and combined with data, makes for an unbeatable analysis and communication tool."
