AccuWeather Takes Leadership Role at 2014 World Weather Open Science Conference (WWOSC)

AccuWeather supported WWOSC and the global meteorological community by becoming a Silver Sponsor and providing expert commentary from CEO Barry Lee Myers

AccuWeather Global Weather Center – August 22, 2014 – AccuWeather, Inc., the global leader in digital weather information, demonstrated its continued leadership in and support for the worldwide meteorological community by sponsoring this week’s WWOSC 2014, a ground-breaking conference that brought together entire weather science and user communities from around the globe. The theme of this year’s conference was “The Weather: What’s the Outlook?” and Barry Lee Myers, CEO of AccuWeather, Inc., spoke in a Special Session and Panel on the “Future of the Weather Enterprise”.

“AccuWeather is very pleased to have played a key role in WWOSC 2014,” Barry Lee Myers said. “AccuWeather works collaboratively with leaders in all parts of the weather industry, throughout the world. The conference was a reflection of our own rapid development as a weather media company and we were pleased to meet and share experiences with the meteorological minds who will be setting the stage for future growth in forecasting."

AccuWeather unveiled several new advances in the past year including the 45-day forecast and the unique, hyper-local AccuWeather MinuteCast®. In an effort to bring pertinent weather information and life-saving warnings to people everywhere, AccuWeather continues to expand and refine its global network, working with government forecasting organizations and myriad data sources throughout the world.

As part of the launch of Facebook’s Internet.org effort, AccuWeather also recently extended free forecasting and severe weather warning information to 4.5 million potential users in Zambia who do not have internet access.

The World Weather Open Science Conference was held in the Palais de Congrès in Montréal, Canada, from 16 to 21 August 2014.

Myers received his B.S. in business administration and economics from the Smeal School of Business at Penn State and his master’s in business (ABD) there also. His J.D. is from the Boston University School of Law.
