PHOTOS: May snow coats Great Lakes, Northeast on Sunday
Late-season snow covered parts of the Great Lakes and northeastern United States this past weekend.
A blast of unseasonably cold air caused temperatures to drop 10-20 degrees Fahrenheit below normal across the region, helping to generate snow showers.
The snow created quite a scene against the blooming spring flowers and green grass.

The strong May sun inhibited snow from accumulating on roadways in most areas, leading to few travel disruptions.
Accumulations on grassy surfaces were around a trace (less than a tenth of an inch of snow) in most locations.
Some of the snow was mixed with graupel, or snow pellets, which is formed when water droplets freeze onto falling snowflakes.
Runners in the Cleveland Marathon dealt with unseasonably cold temperatures and snow during the race.
Fortunately for those hoping for more springlike weather, milder air is expected to return to the Northeast this week.

Snow falls gently onto fully bloomed flowers outside of the National Weather Service office near Buffalo, New York.
