WRF Outlines Rest of Northeast Winter Storm
As I posted in the Forums, he first wave of ice has moved through Central Pennsylvania. It was all sleet, despite what the 4-KM WRF from last night thought it would be (snow, then sleet). It is now ending as freezing rain.
But this is only the first wave. The main storm will reach us later this evening, although the heaviest precip will be south and east of here. I was hoping it would have more sleet than freezing rain too -- that would hurt the travel conditions but will help ease the threat of widespread power outages.
The morning run of the 4-KM WRF has just come out, and is much more accurate with what happened for us early this afternoon - mostly sleet (unfortunately, it came out too late. The model takes 7 hours to run because of its high resolution). What it predicts for the rest of the storm is shown above, though I've started the animation at 7 PM because I believe the model is showing then what is happening right now at 3 PM (four hours late on the placement of the major areas of precip). As you can see, it really depends on where you are as to what kind of precip you get - here in Central PA it looks like we're in for some moderate freezing rain.
