Woman Without Power for 15 Years

A story is circulating in the news today about a woman who has been without power for 15 years, since Hurricane Andrew damaged her house in 1992. But neither the weather nor the power company were specifically to blame -- contractors robbed her of what little money she had then split when it ran out. She lived without heat, air-conditioning and most light during that entire time (she had a drop-cord running to an outlet at the power pole which provided dim light from one lamp).

Hurricane Andrew struck Florida then Louisiana in August 1992, and was the most devastating hurricane in the United States until Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
