Wisconsin & Arizona Snow Droughts
There are a couple areas of the United States that are hurting even worse for snowfall than us snow buffs here in the Northeast.
In Flagstaff, Arizona they normally get 110 inches of snow per season but have yet to rack up an inch for Winter 2005-2006!
And way over in Green Bay, Wisconsin, they are also aching for some snow. Less than 1 inch has fallen in January; they normally get 11 inches. The NWS notes in true IGAR fashion "IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT SNOWFALLS HAVE OCCURRED NORTH AND JUST RECENTLY SOUTH OF GREEN BAY DURING THE PAST WEEK." Unless they get 0.7" of snow this week, this month will go down as the least snowy January ever in Green Bay.
Of course, it's not just snow they are lacking in the Southwest. Phoenix, Arizona has reached its second-longest streak without rain. They haven't had a drop since October 18! The record is 101 days, set back in 1999 and that record will be broken this Saturday if it doesn't rain before then (Carl notes that there is a chance of rain).
