Wind Starts Fire, Fans Flames in Texas
In another good example of how weather can turn your world upside down quickly, high winds downed power lines in Lagarto, Texas yesterday (northwest of Corpus Christi), starting a fire, then high winds and the existing drought conditions made the fire spread quickly. The result: 34 homes were destroyed.
The USDA's Drought Monitor lists 93% of the state in drought conditions, with Lagarto in the "Exceptional Drought" category:
