Wind Chill -21 For Black Friday
Well, Thanksgiving was officially the coldest I have ever experienced here in State College, Pennsylvania (I've been here since 1997). In fact yesterday may well have been the coldest day I've ever experienced in November.
WIND CHILL AT MY HOUSE LAST NIGHT (VIA WX STATION)
After receiving 2 inches of snow, the temperature plummeted from a high of 36 before noon at my house to a low of 12 degrees this morning. Wind chills* were below zero during the middle of the afternoon, when snow continued, and bottomed out at -21 F at 3 a.m. this morning. That's pretty impressive considering my all-time record winter wind chill is only in the -30's.
A -21 degree wind chill is precisely why I didn't brave the crowds for Black Friday while it was still dark outside. The last time I stood in line outside at 4:30 in the morning it was only 40 degrees -- not bad and probably worth it. I didn't venture out this morning until around 9 a.m.
*My weather station calculates wind chill using the old formula which was revised several years ago.
