Widespread Freezing Thunderstorms in Plains
Residents of southwest Missouri, northern Arkansas, northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas awoke to thunder and freezing rain Monday morning. A look at the observations in the area at 7 AM Central Time showed four sites reporting thunder, with 3 of those also having freezing rain (and again at 8 AM). AccuWeather.com RadarPlus confirmed over 1,000 lightning strikes during the last two hours:
All in all, a dozen stations reported freezing rain with thunder between 3 and 9 AM Central Time (see obs from station IDs: cnu,jln,sgf,ppf,aoo,cfv,ewk,hut,iab,ict,wld,bvo).
