Who Joins 100, 110, 120-Degree Club This Week
It's that time of year, of course, but this week's heat will be unusual even for July. If our predictions come true, 13 states in the West & Plains will pass 100 on Thursday (the West) and Friday (into the Plains) then the 100-mark will be broken in the Southeast this weekend.
Isn't that graphic just scary for our friends in the West? Even Needles, California, famous for their heat, will near a record according to AccuWeather.com (PREMIUM | PRO): "Blazing sunshine and very hot with the temperature approaching the record of 121 set in 1989" (officially both AccuWeather and The NWS [JessePedia] are forecasting 120).
The Northwest will also be searing... places like Spokane, Washington, which normally is in the upper 70s this time of year, will likely be over 100. In fact the AccuWeather.com forecast for Spokane, Washington (PREMIUM | PRO) currently reads "Very hot with the temperature approaching the record of 101 last set in 1975."
This weekend, the GFS Forecast Model predicts that parts of Alabama, Georgia and Florida will join the 100-club on Saturday but western North Dakota will beat 110 on Sunday.
