White Xmas GFS Maps, New Rules For Comments!
A couple of asides today... first, I posting each day the White Christmas GFS Maps this year for the U.S., as I did last year, but only on the Forums, so keep checking back there. (Those of you who are watching J's Breaking Weather News at right knew this last week). Also make sure to read my analysis from last year on how ridiculous the GFS forecasts were over that time period. As you can see from the image below, it's already changed a lot since the first forecast.
Second, I love hearing from you readers out there on each of the blog entries I do. You can click on "Leave a Comment" below to say something and have it show up beneath the blog entry. There have been some great comments lately that have led to additional discussion. However there are some types of Comments that I cannot accept.
1. Off-Topic: If the comment doesn't relate to the blog entry, either find a blog entry that it does relate to (at right) or just email me the comment (click on Email Me at the top). For example, if you're going to try to talk about our Winter Forecast in this blog entry (and I know you are!) save it and post it on the Forums instead, where I am talking about it).
2. Personal Attacks: If your comment is a personal attack on myself, AccuWeather or anybody else here, I cannot accept it. Stick to the weather. If you want to say we were wrong, then just say that... but remember rule #3.
3. Unsupported Posts: You can't leave a comment that says "your November forecast was wrong" without saying why. Do you *think* it was wrong because it didn't feel cold outside, or do you have meteorological data that proves it was wrong? If it's only the former, be prepared to be called out for it. Especially crucial is when you claim that I, or Henry, or JB said something - you need to quote us directly and provide a link to the post where we said it. Otherwise, it's just not fair to my readers and I won't approve such comments.
4. Pre-Storm Forecast Busts: I welcome you to bust me, AccuWeather, the NWS, our competitors, or the Media in general on anything that you think we didn't cover correctly or were inaccurate with -- but you need to wait until the forecast period is over, especially if you're violating #3. There's no point in saying the AccuWeather Winter or December Forecasts were wrong until history proves it. I had people trying to comment as early as December 3rd our December 1st - February 28th forecast was busted, and as Bill O'reilly says, that's "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day."
5. Cursing: A blog reader wrote a great post yesterday about his experience with the Northeast Ice Storm, but, because it contained both a Personal Attack and Cursing, so I couldn't approve it. We have kids
We don't approve partial Comments here, so if any of it is tainted by one of these no-no's, it's permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. If you violate these rules repeatedly, I will ban you and your future comments will be automatically deleted.
