White and Windy Thanksgiving
AUTHOR'S NOTES (2012 & 2019): This was my first year of blogging for AccuWeather.com. Other stories this Thanksgiving included
over 2 feet of lake-effect snow fell in New York state
, along with
high winds over the entire Northeast
(
waves even flooded the streets of Lake Erie
). It was frigid on Black Friday with
wind chills below -25 here
.

ORIGINAL BLOG: Like many in the Northeast, I awoke to a White Thanksgiving today, my first since moving to Central Pennsylvania. We only had a couple of inches here in State College, but some places in New York have accumulated as much as 10 inches of lake effect snow since yesterday. Even New York City awoke to some snow this morning.
I recall one other Thanksgiving with snow, when I lived in North Carolina, around 1980. But then... there wasn't also an active tropical storm in the Atlantic , so this is definately a first :)
Below is a shot from the AccuCam and I also took a few photos this morning at home.

One big weather story today could be the winds -- which are forecast to exceed 50 mph in some places. The National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories for much of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and the Appalachians (shown as peach and orange on the map below).
Keep an eye on our advisories map (PREMIUM | PRO) to watch for advisories in your area.
