Weather Gadget Gifts for Father's Day
UPDATE 6/17: The Nest Cam, a higher-quality version of the DropCam, comes out tomorrow!
Here are some recent weather-related gadget ideas for the upcoming Father’s Day (Saturday, June 21):
Cameras where you can document the weather at your house (and watch it remotely!) are all the rage this year. They range from the inexpensive HD cameras from Foscam (my blog review) to the mid-priced Dropcam (review) from which you can generate time-lapses of your weather. Then there’s the Netgear Arlo -- a completely wireless, waterproof, magnetic camera system. See my recent review:

If you’d like to also remotely monitor the temperature and humidity in your backyard – and your friends' houses – inexpensively, you can get three sensors transmitting their data online from AcuRite, for less than $100. For closer to $200, you can add wind and rain sensors.

At the top of the spectrum, the Netatmo system offers an impeccably designed online weather station with new sensors to measure sound and carbon dioxide (they also just introduced a face-recognizing webcam). Also at the top sits the unflappable Davis Vantage Vue, a more professional-grade weather station which I've reviewed before.

Combining both ideas into one, the world’s first wireless, solar-powered weather station is now available for pre-order from Bloomsky. I'm really hoping to get my hands on one of these soon!
If being mobile is your thing, there are also a number of wireless weather sensors you can take with you, such as Thermodo and Windoo. If your dad is more old school, a unique weather instrument like the Tempo Drop or the less expensive Galileo Thermometer & Globe Storm Glass (shown below) might be a good gift. AcuRite has Father's Day Deals from $7.99 -- and free shipping this week!
And for next Father's Day, save your money up for the TempoScope crowdsourcing campaign (coming soon). This thing is nuts! It reproduces your current sky conditions (including fog and rain) inside the box!
*Upload of a graphic like this to a public website is not natively supported in the software. I use a macro screen-grab tool to upload these... but that's another blog, for another day.
