Waycross Fire On Radar, Satellite
The Waycross Fire in Georgia expanded today to have burned nearly 100 square miles of land, a number that surely will be surpassed in the days to come. It showed up clearly today on both the Visible Satellite animation for Georgia, and the Valdosta, Georgia NEXRAD animations:
It has taken 22 homes in the last 12 days (according to NBC12, who has photos and video). Part of the problem is that the Okefenokee Swamp hasn't had a fire in 50 years so there is plenty of fuel (WALB). CBS News says it's the largest fire on record in the state of Georgia.
The high resolution photo below was snapped by NASA's MODIS satellite on April 25th.
