Watch Outer Banks Road Webcam With Danny
About a year ago, an unnamed Nor'easter was off the coast of North Carolina delivering a long "fetch" (area of winds in the same direction) to the Outer Banks, causing the ocean to wash sand and salt water onto the road, and I posted some images here and here from the Mirlo Beach webcam (super secret live version). This is in Rodanthe, somewhere I have visited (the sign pictured here is the same one on some of the archived cam shots. This location is in Rodanthe, near the eastward extent of the Outer Banks [Google Map].
I would keep an eye on that cam this weekend for more of the same. The storm should be in a similar position, unfortunately (for webcam viewing purposes) it's probably going to be overnight tonight when it's in the best position to flood the road. Our AccuWeather.com Google Hurricane Tracker (PREMIUM | PRO)suggests the following position as of 5 AM Saturday:
Still, the webcam will be worth watching all weekend (there are a lot of factors besides fetch, especially local geographic factors which make it impossible to predict when the most overwash will be). If it looks like there's a lot of sand there, Hurricane Bill actually washed some in last week but I didn't think to save off the cam images. Other cams in the area which could get interesting:
