ORIGINAL REPORT:
The storm system gripping the Eastern United States this morning brought tornadoes to the Southeast last night while ice covered parts of the mid-Atlantic and heavy snow dropped on parts of the Appalachians and New England.
Videos are forthcoming of accidents in Virginia and tornado damage in the Sunshine State.
Here's a list of snowfall amounts as of 9 AM (will be updated later today) - highest report per state as reported by The NWS [JessePedia]Spotter Reports (black), our SnowMatrix
, and SkiReport.com
.
NOTE: This blog entry has been superceded by a newer one which has updated information.
*Multiple locations including State College, State College, Pennsylvania, home of AccuWeather HQ [Google Map]. I also measured 6 inches at my home.
**Confirmed with observer, this was actual measurement from Chickoree Mountain. A local TV meteorologist also reported 12" on a nearby mountain.
Ice was reported across the Ohio Valley and Northeast but no reports of over 1/4" were received. Here is a video of the slick roads in Virginia yesterday:
