Video: Winter Causes Problems Worldwide
Of course, as blog reader Bev pointed out, I don't really mean "worldwide" - I mean "hemisphere-wide," as those below the equator are basking in summer right now. It just didn't sound as catchy.
First, a note on the Pennsylvania ice - a number of readers have submitted interesting stories in the Weather Forums today regarding the icy road conditions in Pennsylvania that I talked about earlier. One user reported that "1 car, 1 SUV, 1 cop car, and 1 ambulance all in the same accident" -- right in his front yard! If you have a story to share, post it there.
Here are some videos from ABCNewsOne, showing winter storms causing headaches worldwide... first, to China, where a record winter storm has affected "tens of millions" by knocking out power and stopping trains nationwide on their busiest day of the year. Stephanie Sy reports:

Next up... videos (NO AUDIO) of traffic pileups and crashes, first from Utah (KTVX) in snow, then California (KABC) due to rain:

VIDEO CAPTION: A fast moving winter storm hit Utah Monday (1/28) causing hundreds of vehicle wrecks all over the state. Multiple roads were closed in and around Salt Lake City, Utah. At least one person was killed. The wind also knocked out power to some areas of Salt Lake City forcing two schools to close early. The heavy snow also shut down the Salt Lake City Airport intermittently as snowplows had to clear the runways.
And last but not least, two separate roof collapses in Idaho, due to snow weight (KXLY):

VIDEO CAPTION: Snow caused two building roofs to collapse over two days in Northern Idaho. In Priest River, the roof of the Crass Alley Coffee Shop fell in, under the weight of heavy snow. It also covered a recreational vehicle, two boats, and a couple of cars. The street in front of the building has been closed for fear the building may collapse. In Rathdrum, Idaho, the roof of a hardware store collapsed Monday (1/28). Officials were surveying the damage to see if a neighboring store can reopen. No injuries were reported in either incident.
