Video, Radar: 59-Car Pileup on I-93
There was a 59-car pileup yesterday, involving 3 buses and 2 tractor trailers on I-93 near [Google Map]. The Boston Herald says that there were no major injuries, amazingly. Here's a Raw Weather Video showing the aftermath of the accident:
The BH says that the interstate was closed until 1:30 PM and some people were trapped in a bus, forced to hold up signs testifying to their well-being for emergency crews. Our new Enhanced Radar which is now available on AccuWeather.com showed that the snow had stopped at the time of the accident, but the area had been under heavy snow for several hours, so the road was probably snow-covered.
According to NWS spotter reports, Derry received 7.5" of snow from this storm, and according to the nearest weather station, operated by New Hampshire D.O.T., the temperature was in the upper teens - a bad combination for travel. A map of local temperatures is shown below:
