Valley fog on Appalachian webcams
In my off-time, I maintain a mirror (copy) and archive of a few dozen of my favorite webcams. Many of those cameras are in the Appalachian Mountains, where I grew up (in North Carolina), and live now (Pennsylvania). On Wednesday morning, I noticed fog on the Purchase Knob, North Carolina, webcam and later pulled archives of the static webcam images and created this movie.
I picked the Purchase Knob cam not only because it had great images of the fog yesterday, but it is a really high-resolution camera. I then researched other cameras in the mountains and found the fog on them as well. I plotted them out on this GOES-16 visible satellite from College of DuPage. Here's what they look like:
Most of these cameras are from the National Parks Service and the Forest Service.
