ORIGINAL POST:
Here's an early morning update on the Valentine's Day Storm in the Northeast. Washington D.C.'s airports are shut down. Snow, sleet and freezing rain have fallen across the Midwest and Northeast overnight. Here's what the Radar / Wind / Satellite / Pressure map looks like from AccuWeather.com RadarPlus this morning:

But Indiana takes the cake, reporting:
- Six-foot drifts were reported in Decatur, IN
- Marshall, Indiana picked up 3.1" of sleet
- 3/4 of an inch of Freezing Rain fell in Owen, IN

I've not been impressed with the winds yet. Wind gusts have stuck close to the coast, and if you believe the RUC Forecast Model [JessePedia] predictions (click here for map at 4pm), the winds may never make it west of the near-coastal areas.

If some of these reports sound small compared to the predictions, it's only 6:30 AM Eastern so many snow spotters have not yet submitted reports. Sleet has also been a complicating factor with snow-on-ground reports, some of which these may indicate.
That said, I think we're going to end up with totals lower by some folks. If this is the case, it's due to the sleet and freezing rain lowering accumulations or the Nor'easter not spreading heavy snow far enough west. The storm is cranking this morning but it's not reaching west of us here in Central Pennsylvania. I measured 6-8" on the ground for my Husky to frolic in, and we may get another inch or two. It may look like, from the radar this morning, that we're on the edge of the snow, but if you check the local radar animation, the edge keeps filling in as snow or sleet develops to our west.
