Under The Weather: Weather Briefs, Vol. 3
Although I am recovering nicely this week from my flu-induced absence last week, I still have some catching up to do here at work (big time), so here is a final installment of Weather Briefs, or "blog entries I didn't have time to write."
THIS WEEKEND'S WINTER STORM:
Meteo Madness Man (PREMIUM | PRO) is talking about a possible East Coast winter storm for late this week into the weekend, based on the GFS Forecast Model [JessePedia] predicting it (off and on) for a week now, and "the NAO going negative." (I'll let him explain that to you). After the morning model run came in, though, the GFS has dropped it again. Today was the first time that the NMM and DGEX computer forecast models have shown the storm, and neither is excited yet.
WEATHER CHANNEL FOUNDER DECLARES GLOBAL WARMING 'GREATEST SCAM IN HISTORY'
You didn't hear it from me! Certainly an interesting stance given their current feelings on the subject.
"FIRENADO" VIDEO AT CNN:
Blog reader Case passed this video on to me. It shows a "firenado," or a vortex of wind, smoke and fire during the recent California Wildfires. Fire vortexes are not uncommon, though this was a particularly good video.
"38 BELOW" BLOG RETURNS, ONE DEGREE WARMER:*
Officemate Carl's Blog (PREMIUM | PRO) has made a triumphant return to AccuWeather.com, just in time for his Thanksgiving Disney Vacation Coverage. This time it's not "38 Below," it's "37 Below," having warmed one degree due to Global Warming. And remember, Carl STILL loves them little doggies!
*Originally, I had written "ONE DEGREE COLDER" and Carl pointed out my mistake (PREMIUM | PRO) . Dang negative numbers!!
SAID BLOGGER, HARD AT WORK
HUSKY FARM PICTURES NOW UP!
Speaking of Siberian Huskies, as many of you know, my fall vacation was to a Husky Farm in Maryland, and it robbed me of a day of blogging. I'm pleased to announce that I finally got photos and video online.

WIND TURBINE FARM PHOTOS, VIDEO, NEWS:
Earlier this fall, Local storm chaser Ron "R-Factor" Shawley and I visited the local Wind Turbine Farm down near Altoona, PA and took a bunch of pictures and video, which are now available on the Photo Gallery:

And finally, here are a couple of wind-power-related news stories. First, did you know that you can see Wind Turbine Farms on NEXRAD radar? It's true. Here's a NOAA site proving it and giving example images. They (kind of) explain why they show up - it's the spinning blades, that are causing the returns, I assume. In other news, this inventor claims in this video to have harnessed the power of "resonant frequency." In other words, he has harnessed the power of the winds without blades. You may recall that "resonant frequency" was the concept that took down the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in 1940 (famous video shown below).

You can read more about the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on WikiPedia, which says that the above video is in the public domain.
