UK Flooding Biggest Rescue Effort Ever!
Intense flooding has occurred this week in the United Kingdom and unfortunately more is expected this weekend as a frontal system approaches.
The highest amount quoted in an article by the Daily Express was 4.2 inches (107mm) in 24 hours, which doesn't sound like much but the national average is 4.2 inches this month and the record is only 4.8. This makes the flooding both long-lived and widespread, with the article saying "In each of the last 14 days there has been somewhere in the UK that has recorded more than one inch of rain." The map below shows precipitation so far this month from Pro site. This article from the Times Online describes the situation as the "biggest rescue effort in peacetime Britain." Now that's amazing!
