Typhoon Dolphin on Guam Radar as NWS Warns
Typhoon Dolphin brought extreme conditions to the islands of Guam and Rota today. According to our news story, 106-mph winds were measured at the airport. The radar at Guam went out overnight; I have captured the radar loop below:
The NWS used some really strong verbiage (a la "Katrina") which really surprised me because Guam is often hit by typhoons, and the buildings and trees there are built to withstand it. The most recent direct hit by a typhoon on Guam was Super Typhoon Pongsona in 2002; Typhoon Dolphin passed in between the islands or made landfall as a high "Category 2" storm today. Out in open waters, it could become a super typhoon, but that is looking less likely on the models today.
