ORIGINAL POST: It's dry in Texas. "How Dry is it?" Yesterday a wide area of the state got between 2 and 5 inches of rain, but here's the interesting thing... if you compare yesterday's rainfall map...
...to the 90-Day rainfall map, some of the areas look exactly the same... (I recolored the maps to have the same key)
...meaning that some towns got as much rain yesterday as they have in the last 3 months!
The weekly Drought Monitor map from NOAA said that 100% of the state was abnormally dry, with 10% experiencing an "exceptional drought."
We'll see how that changes next week, but long-term droughts are hard to change so I wouldn't expect miracles. Besides, with the dusty soil down there, getting 5 inches of rain at once is really not that helpful. Even with yesterday's rain, some parts of the state are still more than a foot below normal.
