Twice Rapid Intensification: Storm is "Da Bomb"

UPDATE: 3/25/14: This storm is going to be nuts for Atlantic Canada, possibly their worst in 10 years. And now for the wind on Nantucket...

After another extremely cold morning, winter may be getting ready to go out with a bang. While most eyes are on how much snowfall would come to the northeastern United States as a result of this week's storm, meteorologists have been eyeing its extreme forecast pressure fall, to the tune of twice the threshold for rapid intensification, or "bombogenesis."

Some models are taking it down near 950 mb -- a Category 3 hurricane equivalent storm, not far from Hurricane Sandy (940 mb) but not quite as low as the U.K. storms they had earlier this winter. Here are a couple model projection maps (watch it swirl live):
