- Last weekend's flooding in the Northeast has left at least ten people dead, and at least six more remain unaccounted for. The floodwaters began to receed on Monday, but with more rain expected through the latter half of the week officials are still concerned that dams could overflow or fail.
FLOOD DAMAGE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
- The first snowstorm of the season in Colorado dumped almost three feet of snow in the mountains, closed highways on the plains east of Denver, and is being blamed for three deaths. Xcel Energy spokesman Mark Stutz said 50,000 consumers were without power through part of Monday. Upwards of a foot fell south of the city in places like Parker, Elizabeth and Castle Rock. Breckenridge received the highest snowfall -- 30 inches.
- Exposure to wintery weather is becoming a big concern for relief workers and survivors following the massive earthquake in the mountainous Kashmir border region that seperates Pakistan and India. Torrential rain in hard-hit Muzaffarabad ground helicopters that had been ferrying in relief supplies and ferrying out injured survivors. Pakistani government officials say the death toll is at least 33,000 with another 1,000 reported dead on the Indian side of the Kashmir cease-fire line. The number is expected to climb considerably.
