Tropical-Like Storm Floods Texas, LA
The GFS's prediction of over 5 inches of rain in parts of Texas and Louisiana has come true.
It's interesting if you look at the radar loops as the storm came onshore this morning, there was some very intense banding and the system almost looked like a landfalling hurricane when it came onshore near the Louisiana / Texas border this morning. I discuss that, and show some movies from ARP, in the video below.
As I said in the video, winds and pressure were not anywhere close to Tropical Storm strength, despite the look of the storm on radar. Calcasieu Pass, LA, a station offshore from landfall did show a decent pressure fall and winds gusting to 39 mph (see graph at right). On land, Lacassine gusted to 32 mph.
Over a dozen reports of roads under water were received by The NWS [JessePedia] yesterday and last night in Texas.
This is Texas' second flooding event this week; CNN showed briefly on-air some video footage this morning, it wasn't immediately clear whether this was from today's storm or the severe flooding in Texas on Monday. Chron.com says that two people were killed and that the NWS estimated 8 inches of rain in some places, with Monday's storm.
